2R Cooling & Refrigeration installed a Champion HH8 3-ton inverter heat-pump system at a home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The work covered the full installation and the commissioning that follows it: setting the refrigerant charge for the actual line-set length, verifying the thermostat and staging controls, and confirming cooling and humidity performance before leaving the property.

• The installation uses an approximately 50-foot refrigerant line set between the outdoor heat pump and the indoor air handler.
• The factory refrigerant charge in the outdoor unit is based on approximately 15 feet of line set.
• The refrigerant charge was adjusted according to the manufacturer's requirements for the additional line length.
• Coil temperatures were recorded during commissioning at approximately 59°F, then 52°F, then 40°F as the system pulled down.

• Verified the second-stage (Y2) wiring between the thermostat, air handler and outdoor unit.
• Measured the Y2 control signal at approximately 27 volts.
• Confirmed the thermostat was staging the inverter system as intended.
• Enabled the dehumidification settings at the thermostat.

With the charge corrected for the 50-foot line set and the controls verified, the home reached approximately 66°F during final operation and indoor humidity performance improved with the dehumidification settings enabled. Final system operation, cooling performance and control staging were verified before the job was closed out.

Installing a new heat pump is more than swapping equipment. An inverter system varies its capacity continuously, so it only performs the way it was designed to when the refrigerant charge, airflow, drainage, thermostat configuration and staging are all set up and confirmed on that specific home.
